Despite winter looming, McLean’s Science National Honors Society (SNHS) aims to bring joy to the school through implementation of an exciting project.
This year, SNHS is taking on a new environmental awareness project by partnering with an initiative called Get2Green, an FCPS program which partners with schools around the county to promote environmentally friendly atmospheres.
“Through this project, [SNHS] gets many little challenges, [such as] researching the school’s environmental impact or doing studies on the school’s recycling patterns,” said Erin Kreeger, physics teacher and SNHS advisor.
The Get2Green initiative plans to help SNHS with science-related construction projects that will have positive effects on students and staff.
“Get2Green was talking about helping us construct a plant wall for the school, which would essentially be a big bookshelf filled with plants and lights,” Kreeger said. “This could help the school foster a deeper sense of happiness upon seeing this vibrant wall.”
Through Get2Green’s partnership with SNHS, McLean will become a more environmentally conscious school as both students and staff will be encouraged to be attentive to recycling and littering habits.
“We are so grateful that the Get2Green initiative has decided to partner with us,” Kreeger said. “They’re ultimately helping us leave the school a better place than we found it.”
