On Oct. 30, the Best Buddies Club celebrated their annual Halloween-themed Boo Buddies match party after school.
The match party’s primary goal is to pair club members with intellectual or Developmental Disabilities (IDD) students for the school year to strengthen bonds and friendships within the group.
“Trying to meet new people and making friendships is the main goal of the club and what makes the match party so unique is that it’s where it [all begins],” said sophomore Lorelei Horgan, the event coordinator of Best Buddies. “You’re going to work towards being a good friend and that’s the foundation of Best Buddies for the whole year.”
To form new relationships, students and buddies will continue to participate in various activities and keep in touch throughout the year.
“When you’re pairing people together, you’re really just starting genuine friendships with people and it’s impacting the community because it helps it to [continuously] grow,” Horgan said.
The match party works towards solidifying a tightly knit environment for all students to feel welcome at school. The annual event is also a great opportunity for new club members to understand the club environment and get to know others.
Once matches were revealed, paired students posed for photos with the match party board and enjoyed Halloween-themed snacks, adding spirit to the event.
“The match party was perfect for getting to know everyone and helped me feel more comfortable in the club,” sophomore Aleena Lan said. “I’m excited to grow these new friendships [in Best Buddies].”
