Continuing off their 4-4 record, a much stronger performance than normal, the McLean girls volleyball team aspires to carry that momentum into their senior night match against Yorktown High School on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
“Our season has been going pretty well so far,” senior outside Goldie Woods said. “We’re 4-4 right now, which is a lot better than in the past. The regular season is almost over, but we’re going to do our best in districts and just [try] to go as far as possible and play our best.”
Their newfound success can be largely attributed to the positive team atmosphere and widespread support on the team. However, the team’s weaknesses are displayed in their frequent difficulty finishing games after an early lead.
“[Our] players never stop cheering and it brings a lot of energy… [which] is definitely one of the most important aspects of our team,” senior outside Katia Abelev said. “[However], we have had numerous instances where we win the first 2 sets and then don’t win until the 5th. [One of our] weaknesses is our tendency to not finish games.”
Despite these flaws, the team remains confident that they can put on a solid performance against Yorktown.
“I think if we bring it and get momentum and energy we can hopefully do really well [on senior night],” Abelev said.
