The Red Cross Club started their year off by participating in Celebrate McLean, handing out eye-catching blood bags filled with juice to incentivize people to join.
“I joined the Red Cross Club this year because I wanted to be part of something that helps people directly,” said sophomore Entisar Neji, a member of the Red Cross Club.
Just last week, the Red Cross had a club meeting where members made cards for veterans.
“We’ve already done projects like making cards for veterans, which is really rewarding. Plus, it’s a great way to earn service hours while making a real difference,” Neji said.
All the Red Cross clubs in the region get together to make cards which are sent to veterans.
“This is one of the first activities we have done each year because it shows members how we can fulfill Red Cross lines of service,” said senior Soyam Amanuel, Red Cross Club president.
Their next meeting is the Red Cross orientation. This is where members will become official Red Cross volunteers. These official volunteers will then be able to log in service hours for future club events or meetings.
“The biggest event of the year will be in March,” Amanuel said. “We will be having our annual blood drive and [McLean is] competing with other clubs in the region to collect the most points.”
