McLean’s Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) is looking towards the many events that will come this year. The PTSA is in charge of coordinating many events at Mclean, including therapy dog Thursdays, several teacher appreciation activities and various other fundraisers and programs throughout the year.
“On Fridays, we [will] do a breakfast station and special meals for teachers,” PTSA president Karen Leiser said. “ We also [are planning to] work on social activities, such as the all night grad party.”
One of the biggest events organized by the PTSA happened last month: Celebrate Mclean. The event draws in massive audiences and requires months of planning. This planning is made possible by the dedicated parents who volunteer for the PTSA.
“Celebrate Mclean helps connect the Mclean community by showing and advertising different clubs,” junior Maria Ayvazyan said.
In addition to student centered events, the PTSA works closely with teachers. The PTSA offers Friday breakfasts and grants to teachers who need resources to help produce certain lessons.
“Some things are behind the scenes, like raising and giving money to the teachers for special projects,” Leiser said.
The PTSA is starting off their year strong, but they still have work to do. As the year begins they are slowly getting back into the rhythm of things, as they plan new fundraising initiatives and work to make the school a more welcoming environment to everyone.
“By supporting the PTSA, we are putting money into helping our school with [what] it really needs,” Ayvazyan said.
