Falls Church Farmers Market
Open every Saturday from April to December, there is much to see at the Falls Church Farmers Market. The market is divided into two seasons: the Summer Market from May to December and the Winter Market from January to April.
“We started the market in 1984, so it’s been around 40 years. It’s one of the nicest things about the community,” market manager Howard Herman said. “We’re here every Saturday so people can come up, buy their produce, buy their baked goods, say hi to their neighbors, see people they haven’t seen for a couple of months, talk and share news about their families and the community. It’s just a great environment.”
The market features various vendors, though part of its charm is the live music that adds to the market’s familial ambiance. With two musical performers in every market — one featured on the west side and the other on the east side of the market — family friendly music is performed live by local artists and bands for the entirety of the market.
“We have entertainment in the warmer months, singing and playing music adds to the environment and the atmosphere. The market really helps define the City of Falls Church,” Herman said. “This is one of the best markets in the Northern Virginia area. It was a past winner of farmers market of the Year from Our American Farmland Trust.”
Mosaic Farmers market:
In the heart of a shopping district, the FRESHFARM Farmers market in Mosaic, offers a vibrant and bustling gathering place for locals and visitors alike. The market runs on a year-long season from January to December;however, the main season begins during April.
Established in 2019, the farmers market has been a cornerstone of the community, providing a platform for local farmers and artisans to showcase their goods. Founded with the mission of promoting sustainable agriculture and fostering connections between farmers and consumers, the market continues to uphold its commitment to supporting local producers.
“FRESHFARM [grocery store] brings in vendors and scheduled vendors. We select farmers’ orchards and vendors to source from local farms,” senior market operator Molly Cullen said.
Visitors can find everything from Zeke’s Coffee to Blue Stone Kabob, all sourced from local producers. Many locals and visitors are able to view the Mosaic Farmers market website, in which there are detailed links about the producers and farmers as well as ways of contacting them.
“So I just moved to the area last month and I’ve been coming every weekend, trying different stands, getting fresh bread and cheese,” shopper Bria MacNamara said. “I haven’t tried all of them yet, but it’s nice getting to talk to locals. I’ve brought friends with me. It’s a great weekend activity.”
