McLean students recently brought back the Korean club after a years-long hiatus. The Korean club gives a sense of belonging to those that may struggle finding a community at school. Although the club consists mainly of Koreans, anyone could join the festivities. Furthermore, meetings often offer a chance to enjoy various sorts of Korean food, most of which one could not find at a local grocery store.
“There are always some good snacks and I have gotten to taste some very delicious Korean snacks which, without this club, I would have never gotten to try,” sponsor Ava Minutello said.
In addition to providing unique snacks for members, gatherings include various sorts of games, as well as study sessions for impending exams.
“In the upcoming weeks we might see more study sessions,” Minutello said. “Just time for them to come together with their friends and prepare for more AP classes, like the big tests that are coming.”
The Korean club unifies students, welcoming people of different ethnicities while allowing those with a Korean background to convene and converse.
“The focus of the club is just to bring students together that have a shared culture just to talk about [their lives],” Minutello said. “It’s good to just get together and have kind of a shared identity and be around people that just fundamentally get you, that’s essentially what’s so appealing about it.”
