McLean Book Club hosts literary discussion
Members prepare for second book of the year
On Wednesday, Jan. 24, the McLean Book Club will meet to explore The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab.
“The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue explores the idea of immortality. The main character, Addie LaRue wishes for ‘more time’ and is promptly faced with an eternity, an eternity in which no one remembers her,” senior and president Karina Bhatt said. “She can say hi to someone, and they will promptly forget who she is. She doesn’t appear in photos, and she can’t spill coffee. She’s invisible to all except the devil she made the bargain with, until she’s not. She finds someone who does remember her, and suddenly it all changes.”
The meeting will revolve around an informal book analysis open for all to join.
“Honestly, I’m looking forward to the food. The expected answer is the discussion, which is great, too,” Bhatt said. “However, there’s something about eating with friends and in a community that’s exciting.”
So far this year, the Book Club has read The A.B.C. Murders by Agatha Christie. Members expressed hope to see higher participation this week with the new book discussion.
“It’s been hard since Ms. McCarthy left, we’re having a low turnout this year,” Bhatt said. “I’m hoping as we move into fun books like Addie LaRue we’ll start seeing more people show up.”
