In the aftermath of the freshly completed bathroom renovations, the McLean administration has announced that the first floor hallways will receive a fresh retiling over the next three to four weeks.
“The halls will be clean and passable during school hours [during the renovation],” the school said in a statement.
The administration says the retiling work will be completed after school and during the weekends, and should not result in hallway closures.
The move comes a year after around half of the floorspace of the silver hall was retiled by a contractor for Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). The retiling came with little notice due to the small scale of the operation. The silver hall was previously among the halls with the most severed tiles.
“I think we could use more space across the school, but this is a good start,” senior Kian Choi said. “It will probably end up taking until the end of the year [to retile the first floor].”
The first floor hallways to be retiled are the red and blue halls, along with the undone remainder of the silver hallway. The progress is welcomed by staff and students as a step forward for the school.
“We care about wider hallways to actually get through them. This is a step in the direction nonetheless,” junior Max Bishop said.
