Virginia and thirteen other states held primaries on March 2, Super Tuesday. Former vice president Joe Biden won 10 states including Virginia.
“[Biden] has never been close to my favorite candidate but like most other democrats I will take anyone who isn’t Donald Trump,” senior Lindsea Strelser said.
The day before Tuesday former candidates Pete Buttigeieg, Tom Steyer, and Amt Klobuchar all dropped out and endorsed Biden. Biden’s comeback may have to do with those endorsements and with his big win in South Carolina.
Bernie Sanders won three states including California. Bloomberg won American Samoa, but has since dropped out. Today Elizabeth Warren dropped out of the race leaving Sander, Biden, and Gabbard left in the race.
This was the first election seniors at McLean High school got to vote in.
“It was exciting and all the volunteers at my voting location were ecstatic to learn that it was my first time voting,” Strelser said.
Stresler is excited about Super Tuesday as a whole.
“It was so crazy to finally be participating in a federal election since I was a freshman during the 2016 presidential election, Strelsler said. “Everything feels so much more up close and personal since I’m now the one voting and helping to make decisions for the United States.”
