Ever since his high school days two years ago, the future NBA career of Zion Williamson has been greatly anticipated. Williamson is a superb athlete, standing at 6 feet and 7 inches tall while weighing at 285 pounds, he has all the physical capabilities necessary to be an NBA all-star.

Further making the 2019 NBA Draft so exciting is that the excellence of Zion Williamson is accompanied by the likes of Ja Morant, Jarret Culver, RJ Barret, Cam Reddish, Bol Bol who are also surefire future all-stars of the NBA.

Thus, there was a lot on the line for all NBA franchises last night during the draft lottery; and all the world’s basketball fans were startled by the unexpected results. The lottery saw the New Orleans Pelicans getting the first overall pick of the NBA Draft this summer when they only had a 6% chance. The second overall pick went to the Memphis Grizzlies, the third pick went to the New York Knicks who had tanked all season and were expecting a higher pick. Even more unexpected than the Pelicans’ first overall pick was the fourth overall pick that went to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Due to the fact that the Lakers had acquired Lebron James in last summer’s free agency, and the fact that they almost made the playoffs, the Lakers’ chance at a top four pick was a measly 2%.

Certain McLean basketball fans believe that the results were rigged.

“It’s absolutely outrageous,” junior Mahd Zafar said. “They’re just trying to make sure Lebron has as much help as possible.”

Famous YouTuber Chris Smoove also addressed the Draft Lottery in his recent video Pelicans Get 1st Pick! Lakers Lucky! 2019 Draft, as he referred to LeBron James as “LeGM,” and also jokingly said it was the “LeRigged Draft.”

Despite the controversy, fans are still optimistic of some positives to the results of the Draft Lottery.

“There are definitely going to be some blockbuster trades,” sophomore Daniel Collaku said. “I’m most interested in seeing what the Lakers do with their pick, will they use it in a blockbuster trade or use the pick?”
