Third time’s the charm!
The girls lacrosse team had their first win after their third game of the season
March 20, 2019
As the fans cheered on the bleachers, the girls lacrosse team beat Wakefield on the field. On March 18, the McLean varsity team went up against Wakefield High School at McLean for their third game of the season. This game was their first win this year with an ending score of 19-2.
The girls started off strong by scoring 15 goals in the first half of the game and then, four in the second half. The players all got a shot to play on the field as McLean was a lot better than Wakefield. Many different people on the team also got goals in this game.
“This was a really good game for us, … at some of our other games not as many people get to play because we’re against harder teams,” sophomore varsity player Lianne Garrahan said.
The team used this game to focus on improving their teamwork and game strategies as they were always ahead of their opponent. The girls could work on the basics and concentrate on their technical skills.
“We were able to try out some new plays, which was nice,” Garrahan said.
Because this was their first win of the season, it has boosted the team’s confidence. It was also Coach Priscilla Smith’s first career win as Head Coach of the varsity girls lacrosse team because she is a new coach.
The team has many more games coming up. Their next one is on Thursday, March 21, against Forest Park High School, which they are obviously hoping to win. This season continues until late May or early June depending on how far the team gets to in the post-season tournaments like regionals and states.
