Dogs call for no more ruff days
October 25, 2018
As an effort to reduce stress that students of McLean face daily, the PTSA brought in some furry friends on Oct. 24. During all lunches students were able to pet and toss tennis balls with the dogs.
The purpose of bringing in the dogs is a part of the PTSA’s “Wellness Wednesdays,” which promotes better mental health for the students.
Every Wednesday, the PTSA puts together a lunchtime activity for students who feel stressed or overwhelmed to participate in. In the past there has been activities set up like Play-Doh stations, but the therapy dogs are an all-time favorite of students. Usually these are held in the courtyard or inside by the rock entrance.
“Playing with the dogs takes my mind off of all my school work, which is a big cause of my stress,” sophomore Anika Malhotra said.
The dogs range from puppies to seniors, and there is a variety of breeds to play with. Students can sit and cuddle with the dogs, or toss balls for them to chase during their lunch. The dogs’ owners who supervise can offer information about their dog.
