Interested in writing and getting into the spooky Halloween spirit? The National English Honor Society is holding a Halloween-themed poem and short story contest.

“I think [this] is such a great opportunity as one can be as creative as they want for their story,” senior Ariane Richard said, NEHS Lit Love Committee Chair.

Writers are encouraged to come up with a scary piece no more than 5000 words for a chance to be featured in the online edition of the Highlander by October 22nd. Submissions can be turned into room B159 or emailed to [email protected].

The judges have an opportunity to reward the scariest writers- while enjoying themselves when going through the submissions.

“It’s so fun reading all the submissions and seeing different stories people create. Plus, it’s always fun to participate as the winner gets a prize,” Richard said.

Following the contest, there will be an NEHS party after school on October 26th to announce the winners and give out prizes. To celebrate the 200th anniversary of Frankenstein, wear a costume to the party.
