The Jazz Band at McLean is overlooked by some, but is home to a vital key member. Cliff Lin is the Guitarist in the band and has an important role.

“I’m part of the rhythm section,” said Lin, “so I’m responsible for the beat of the song.”

Lin, a senior, has been playing with the band for three years. Over the years, he has found the songs progressively easier as his sheet reading skills have majorly increased due to the intensive band schedule.

“We have two rehearsals a week, that are both around two hours,” said Lin, “we usually have performances every two or three weeks.”

Lin has worked hard to contribute, and got to close out this year with a solo at the Winter Concert in front of the whole school one last time.

“A big role model [for me] would be the jazz band director, Mr. Weinhold. He always says ‘Just play and not think,’” said Lin.
