On Tuesday, May 8 the Highlander baseball team took on Washington and Lee on their senior night. They won 8-4, securing the regular season championship, and finishing with a record of 8-2 in conference and 14-6 on the season.

Following the big win, Coach John Dowling tweeted “Every single senior contributed in a meaningful way today. Great team win to close out regular season.”

Each of the seniors was honored prior to the game, walking onto the field escorted by their family members.

“It meant a lot to have my parents there because they have always been a great support system for me and they were able to be recognized too,” senior Marshall Pratt said.

This year’s seniors are James Beahn, Ryan Dahlseid, John Putziger, Marshall Pratt, Max Groppe, Grant Williams, Ben Weinstein, Owen Ricketts, and Yani Farmakides. Next year, they will be attending Ohio State University, University of South Carolina, Purdue University, United States Military Academy at West Point, Emory University, Randolph Macon College, University of South Carolina, Washington University of St. Louis, and James Madison University, respectively. Both Groppe and Williams have committed and plan to continue their baseball careers throughout college.

“I have really enjoyed my time playing baseball at McLean. These seniors have been awesome teammates who I have played with for many years, so I’m said its coming to an end, but I’m excited for what next year has in store for me,” senior Max Groppe said.

The underclassmen on the team are sad to see the seniors go, but are optimistic about the team’s talent next year.

“I’m sad to see the seniors leave because they were great leaders and helped improve the team, but I’m confident that we’ll be really good next year because we have a lot of strong players,” sophomore Teddy Merritt said.
