Editing app Huji is a huge hit
The app promises to make 2018 photos look like 1998 photos

Ask any Highlander what the most popular photo-editing trend on Instagram is right now, and chance are they’ll say it’s Huji.
Huji is an app that makes photos taken on an iPhone look like they were taken on an analog camera. It promises that, using the app, a photo will “[have] a feeling just like 1998”.
The app adds a reddish filter that over-saturated photos to perfection, random streaks of rainbow light and dust specks. It also allows the user to add a date at the bottom right of the photo in true analog style. You can either choose to use the actual date the picture was taken or the same date in 1998.
The app is really fun to use because it edits no picture the same way, creating unlimited outcomes. When I first downloaded it, I uploaded all of my favorite pictures from my phone to see the range of the app’s effects, and I was not disappointed. Not one of my photos looked similar to another.
While the actual photo-editing aspect of the app is great, its structure is kind of confusing and difficult to use. When you first open the app, the screen appears as the back a true disposable analog camera, and to shift to the actual camera mode, you have to “look into the viewfinder” (which is actually just bringing your phone screen close to your face), which feels extremely awkward. Also, changing the editing settings required some tapping around and experimentation, but ultimately, the ability to customize the way the app edits your photos is super helpful and makes the whole process feel more creative.
I wasn’t around in 1998, but from what I’ve seen of my parents’ photos from the time, Huji is pretty accurate. But more importantly, the app is fun and makes photos more interesting and Instagram-worthy. Whether you’re scrolling through your finsta or your rinsta, get ready to see more and more photos edited with Huji.
