McMUN demolishes the competition at UPENN

Last weekend, the University of Pennsylvania hosted the 34th annual Ivy League Model United Nations Conference, and McLean reaped significant rewards.

Every year, McMUN travels to the Ivy League Model United Nations Conference, hosted at the University of Pennsylvania, to take on some of the most experienced delegate teams from around the country. This year, 16 McLean delegates attended the conference and every delegate placed.

“The teams comprised of two single delegates, and seven double delegates,” McMUN Secretary General Riya Master said. “Everyone did amazing. It wasn’t our highest scoring conference, but we came away with a lot of hardware.”

That hardware included one verbal mention, six outstanding mentions, and two gavels, the most coveted award at all conference which goes to the very best delegation.

“Again, we didn’t get everything we wanted, but we came away with some good awards,” Riya Master said.

While McMUN didn’t come away with everything they wanted, they came away looking a lot better than most school’s delegations.

McMUN delegations attending ILMUNC left for the conference last Thursday missing school on Thursday and Friday. They stayed at the Double Tree Hilton in Philadelphia and dived into historical Philadelphia while committee wasn’t in session.

“[Riya and I] partnered together as Niger for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and we received an Outstanding!” McMUN Director of Education Neha Rana said. “We had a lot of fun discovering the city [of Philadelphia] and kicking butts in conference.”

Overall, McMUN was one of the standout delegations and came away as one of the most respected schools at the conference.
