Creators Matt and Ross Duffer succeed in breaking with tradition by making a sequel that lives up to if not surpasses its predecessor. Stranger Things Season 2 was released on Netflix on Oct. 27 four days before Halloween amid lots of excitement. The timely release as well as the stellar reviews led to avid binge watching from viewers all over the country.
Stranger Things Season 2 opens up with a car chase. From the beginning, show runners were trying to prove that this season was going to be something new. It is revealed that Eleven is not the only meta-human around. Back in Hawkins, Indiana, it has been one year after the events from the previous season took place. The Adventuring Party made up of Mike, Dustin, Lucas and Will, as well as their families, are all attempting to move on with their lives. Unfortunately, this is made difficult for Will especially by the fact that he still feels a connection to the Upside Down.
Ultimately, it is revealed that Will has become a conduit for a demonic power, known as the Shadow Monster, who is attempting to infiltrate the world through Hawkins. The new administration in charge with Hawkins lab had been attempting to exterminate the door into the Upside Down but had unknowingly created something even worse. The old team of the boys as well as Nancy, Steve, Jonathan, Chief Hopper and Joyce Byers all join forces to defeat this growing terror. They are joined by two new members; Joyce’s new boyfriend and radio shack employee, Bob, and the newest addition to the adventuring party Max.
As events begin to unravel it becomes apparent that Will can not be trusted and that he is in fact a spy for the monster. The party realizes that the only way to kill the monster but spare Will is to somehow draw it out. Eleven returns to save her friends. To the shock of the group it is revealed that Hopper had been hiding her for months in the hopes that she would not get taken away. Once reunited, the group splits up again to defeat the Shadow Monster.
In a heart racing finale, the heroes of Hawkins succeed in their mission in the face of dema-dogs, flesh eating roots and the Shadow Monster itself. All seems to be well in Hawkins as the middle school snow ball dance commences. However, no good story can truly have a happy ending as it is seen that the Shadow Monster is still out there and angry.
Stranger Things Season 2 succeeded in bringing a new chapter to the incredible story. Appealing to all ages and generations, the story is truly captivating and intriguing. The incredible cast of kids as well as the adults make the show believable. Clearly, the story is open for a third season and it will be exciting to see what the Duffer Brothers cook up.
