McLean/W&L varsity football recap

Jackson Payne, Managing editor

On Oct. 27, McLean varsity football fell to 0-9 after a 21-0 loss to the Washington-Lee Generals.

W&L came into the matchup following a tough 35-28 loss to Langley last week, and McLean hoped to recapture some of last year’s homecoming magic with a big win in front of a raucous home crowd. W&L was also without key offensive weapons Larry Carpenter and Jabari Johnson, while McLean suffered from the losses of Luka Karony and Mateus O’Bryan.

Senior running back Bryan Chung explodes for a huge gain against W&L on Oct. 27. Chung’s efforts weren’t enough to put the Highlanders on the scoreboard, as penalties drained each play.

McLean’s offense struggled throughout the night despite some explosive plays by running back Bryan Chung, who had nearly 230 scrimmage yards before penalty flags washed away each play. McLean’s defense stopped W&L at the goal line three drives in a row thanks to a clutch interception by senior corner back Chris Schram and a fumble recovery for junior linebacker Logan Johnson.

McLean looks to get their offense back on track in this week’s season finale at home against Langley.
