The McLean Highlanders varsity volleyball team took on the Langley Saxons for a third time this year in the district championship this past Monday. Langley continued their winning streak against the Highlanders in a three set match.
“Tonight wasn’t our best showing for how we have played as a team all season long. We were off on our serve-receive with isn’t normal for us, so we couldn’t effectively run our offense,” said assistant coach Steve Stotler.
While the Highlanders had a bit of a struggle in this match up against the Saxons, they worked hard all season and impressed other coaches in the district.
“I think they came a long way this season, they started off and lost to Yorktown and Washington-Lee, then came back and beat everybody,” said Langley volleyball head coach Susan Shifflett.
Looking ahead to regionals the players are keeping an optimistic viewpoint.
“Every team is beatable,” said Abbi Hobbs, varsity player.
The Highlanders take on Oakton at home on Wednesday in the first game of regionals. After the defeat against Langley they hope to fix their mistakes and make the necessary changes for the game.
“it’s just a matter of can we keep believing and making it click and putting it together,” said Stotler.
