The McLeaders finished homecoming week strong with the presentation of Friday’s pep-rally. The event was filled with screaming students, dancing teachers, and school spirit. McLeaders planned most of the homecoming week activities, including the pep-rally.

“Leadership has been working for about a month to plan the pep-rally,” new senior and member of leadership Liberty Henson said.

The work of the leadership team has not gone unnoticed. With a focus on school spirit, this year has already seen a high turnout at football games and in student activities. Pep-rallies are just one way McLeaders contribute to the school culture.

“[I am most excited for] the boys’ dance routine. They have even been having practices,” Henson said before the pep rally.

A highlight of the pep rally, the boys’ dance routine left  students laughing and dancing along. In their cropped jean shorts, the boys kept the crowd engaged and lightened the mood.

In the traditional spirit contest between the grades, seniors dominated. Despite a smaller class compared to the underclassmen, seniors yelled and cheered with more spirit than any other grade. The spirit contest filled the gym with deafening screams from all grades and allowed students to participate.

During the pep rally, McLeaders announced important events and congratulated fall sports teams and clubs. Senior Anna Kate Womack spoke on the behalf of the drama department and their upcoming production.

“Please come out to see Volume of Smoke,” Womack said after regaling the crowd with a description of the play.

The drama department’s upcoming production of Volume of Smoke was just one of many events plugged by the McLeaders.

Senior Riya Master encouraged students to make good choices at the upcoming homecoming dance.

“Make good decisions and stay safe this weekend,” Masters said.

Other highlights of the pep-rally were Angus’ defeat of the generals, the dance team’s routine, and a dance from McLean teachers. The high energy pep-rally was a solid end to a fun-filled homecoming week.
