WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM SEASON 1 of Stranger Things
Last year, Stranger Things soared to the top of the Netflix realm within weeks of its release. Creators Matt and Ross Duffer were able to grab the attention of teens and adults with a series that beautifully blends science fiction, horror, and mystery. On Oct. 13, Netflix released the final trailer for the second season of Stranger Things, which will appear on Netflix on Oct. 27.
Season 1 introduced us to a group of young boys (Mike, Lucas, and Dustin) in Hawkins, Indiana, who try to save their missing friend, Will Byers. In addition, they struggle to deal with an ominous, paranormal villain, the Demogorgon, which resides in the “Upside Down”- a mysterious supernatural dimension. By the end of the season, Will Byers gets saved and returns home, yet his body has clearly been affected from his time in the Upside Down. In addition, Eleven (El), the girl who helps find Will and battle the Demogorgon, winds up by herself again, on the run from the Department of Energy.
With Season 2 approaching, the final trailer is filled with drama, along with a load of action-packed scenes. The trailer shows multiple times that Will is still experiencing major trauma from the Upside Down. None of the other characters seem to understand why he is acting abnormally once he’s home, so this will cause much tension and confusion. In addition, the audience sees that Will has encounters with the so called “Shadow Monster.” Based on what we’ve seen, we can infer that the Shadow Monster is the new supernatural creature that will look to terrorize the town of Hawkins.
While it appears the same group of characters (the boys, El, Hopper, etc.) will work to defeat the new monster, we see a few new additional characters. One such character would be Max, a read-headed girl who appears eager to help the boys and become an ally. Her addition to the group should help the group stay adventurous when El is not around.
Finally, we see that the Department of Energy, portrayed as one of the antagonists in Season 1, is continuing to conduct a variety of experiments and tests regarding the science behind Will’s condition. Whether their intentions are for better or worse, however, are still unclear. The Department will be annoying to many of the characters (and fans) if they continue to pursue characters such as El.
The timing of the season’s release is quite fitting, as this will be the perfect show to watch during the Halloween Season. Fans should certainly expect a season that will provide them with more horrifying, entertaining, and jaw-dropping moments than the first one.
