Quantico season 2 meets expectations
FBI TV series continues to thrill viewers
February 6, 2017
ABC’s drama thriller series Quantico continued its 2nd season on Jan. 23 after taking a break on Nov. 27 2016 from its mid-season finale. The show was moved from Sundays 10:00pm to Mondays 10:00pm.
The mid-season finale ends with American heroine, FBI agent Alex Parrish, pulling off the mask of one of the terrorists at the Federal Hall National Memorial. Underneath the mask is Ryan Booth, Parrish’s former fiancé and closest confidant. This cliff-hanger left me, and thousands of other viewers I’m sure, at the edge of my seat and gripping my screen for more. As such, I was extremely excited to see the season continue on Jan. 23 and have my questions answered.
Unfortunately, the new episode, titled “CLEOPATRA,” does not start immediately from ALex ripping Ryan’s mask off. This jump led to a slight disconnect from the previous episode and left me thinking for a few minutes that the beginning was a flashback. However, it does continue off from when Alex discovers that Ryan is one of the terrorists.
The episode then continues in Quantico’s usual format, in which the show goes back and forth between flashbacks and the current situation. Just like the first season, season two’s flashbacks will inevitably lead up to how the season started: terrorists groups’ “Citizen’s Liberation Front” taking over the G20 summit at the Federal Hall National Memorial.
One issue I had with “CLEOPATRA,” however, was that Alex’s and Ryan’s relationship does not seem to go anywhere. From the beginning of season 2, it was clear that the two people’s relationship was under a strain due to the secretive nature of being an FBI agent. All throughout the season, Alex and Ryan question their relationship and I had expected them to resolve their relationship issues to focus on the bigger issue: stopping a rogue group within the CIA from forming. To my disappointment, Alex and Ryan have yet to figure out with their relationship status is.
All in all, the continuation of season 2 of Quantico does not fail to keep the tension of the unknown maintains the question of, “Who’s ‘good’ and who’s ‘bad’?” The second half of the season is off to a strong start and will surely keep the excitement going until its conclusion.
