Avatar:The Last Airbender, is an American television show created by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. It aired on Nickelodeon from 2005-2008 and by the time the show was over, it was acclaimed one of the best animated TV series of all time.

The story takes place in a world that is divided up into four nations: the Water Tribe, the Fire Nation, The Earth Kingdom and the Air Nomads. Each nation represents an element which can be ‘bended’ by the people in that tribe. The main character is a boy named Aang who is the last Air Nomad alive and is also the ‘Avatar’, meaning he can bend all four elements. In every generation, there is only one Avatar whose duty is to bring balance and peace in the world. Aang travels the world with his friends Katara, Toph and Sokka, on a journey to prevent the Fire nation from taking over the world.

The show was commercially successful and praised by critics for its cultural references, characters, humour and themes that are rarely seen in children shows. Avatar was rated very high on IMDb coming in at 9.2/10 stars and won five different awards: a Genesis Award, a Primetime Emmy award, an Annie Award, a Peabody Award and a Kid’s Choice Award.

This series has just recently become available on Netflix and is already on the Netflix top 10 shows. Many people who haven’t watched this Avatar: The Last Airbender are now starting to watch it and those who have watched it are rewatching this amazing show. If you haven’t watched it yet, I highly recommend it as it is a great way to pass time during quarantine.
