The critically acclaimed Netflix series Black Mirror aired its fourth season in late December of 2017. The show which originally aired in the UK has since found huge success worldwide and specifically in America. The show is an ode to anthology series of the past such as The Twilight Zone. Like any good anthology series viewers can pick up on whatever episode they chose  conversely this makes the show only as good as the episode watched.

However in season four of Black Mirror, writer-producer Charlie Brooker does not disappoint. In this latest batch of episodes Brooker continues his theme of analyzing how technology has the ability to parallel but also corrupt humanity. Episodes such as “Black Museum”, “Archangel” and “Crocodile” exemplify the shows typical stance that tells a tale of a bleak future where technology brings out the worst in humanity.

Despite these bleak episodes there was one stand out. “Hang the DJ” took a very different stance from the others in the series. In this love story filtered through a twisted prism of online dating, two people go through the process of being paired up by computer modules. However in the end it becomes clear that technology is actually allowing for humans to achieve better versions of themselves and others. This episode took the stance that in fact in some cases humanity can triumph.

Overall, the ups and downs, the startling plot twists, and the excellent writing makes the show an exciting watch. It show be highly recommended to those of all ages looking for a show that will make them think without having to spend an exorbitant amount of time catching up on lots of episodes.
