Starting in February, the Robotics Club begins meeting once or twice every week, to prepare for a Botball tournament in March. Botball is a 19 year old sport where student-made robots have to complete different tasks to earn points. Last year the goal was to pick up pom poms in an arena. The club was created for students interested in engineering and STEM.

“There are many clubs for different areas, like Model UN and debate, but [for] engineering and STEM, there aren’t many clubs for that, and this club particularly offers an opportunity to prepare and compete in a competition,” new club president Sung Min said.

Min is taking the reigns from London Russell, who was club president for two years. Min hopes that the members will experience their first taste of a project in engineering. The club had about 18 people last year, but people who want to join don’t have to know much about robotics or programming to get into the club.

“You don’t need to know anything prior to the test, but you do need some knowledge of how logic works, because everything else we will teach before the competition,” Min said.

The club also isn’t just for programmers.

“There’s also building, documentation and programming. And anyone, even if you are not a proficient programmer, can try out for building and documentation,” Min said.
