Disney-Frozen

Currently number two on the iTunes list of best-selling albums (number one is a compilation of tracks from the Grammy-nominated artists of 2014), Frozen’s original motion picture soundtrack is still going strong on the charts months after its release, and for good reason. The songs are some of the best from Disney in years, and the album features stunning vocals from Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Josh Gad, and Jonathan Groff, as well as others. Additionally, “Let it Go” has been nominated for best original song for the Oscars.

The soundtrack features thirty-two tracks in total, although only eleven feature actual vocals- the rest are just the orchestral score of the movie, with the music being written by Christopher Beck. Although these pieces aren’t worth purchasing by themselves, they are lovely to listen to, and serve as a wonderful bonus on the album.

The best part of the compilation however, is by far, the songs that have vocals, written by Kristen Anderson Lopez and Robert Lopez. Of these almost none are a disappointment, although “Frozen Heart” is the weakest- a short song that is the opener of the film, and doesn’t leave much of a lasting impression on the listener.

After that, all of the songs are amazing. “Do You Want To Build A Snowman” is cute, sweet and sad; “For The First Time In Forever” and its reprise are catchy and clever; and “Reindeer(s) Are Better Than People” and “In Summer”, sung by Groff and Gad respectively, are hilarious and delightful. By far the best song however, is “Let It Go”. Sung by both Menzel and Demi Lovato, Menzel’s version is much better and more powerful- her soaring vocals are gorgeous, and the song is beautifully written and ridiculously memorable.

In the end, Frozen’s soundtrack is definitely worth the buy- although one should really go and see the equally amazing movie first.
