Want to spend this Halloween on fall hayrides or scary trails? The national area offers multiple opportunities for thrill enthusiasts during the spooky season.

The most highly rated Halloween events in the region are “Fright Fest” at Six Flags and “Halloween Haunt” at Kings Dominion. Both parks are renowned for their Halloween season of rides and screams. Unlike many events that take place in the outdoors, these events are within the amusement parks and occur inside enclosed areas. Highly regarded by fans, these thrills are perfect for experienced Halloween goers and horror fans. Prices range from $51.99- $55.00 for admission to Halloween specials.

A less well-known opportunity taking place in Olney, Maryland, is “Field of Screams.” This high intensity scare zone has four different parts to it: a creepy hayride, zombie paintball, a 3D haunted house, and finally, a terrifying trail through the woods. The trail is the highlight of the event, forcing groups to bolt through the woods from scare to scare. This is a blood pumping thrill recommended for experienced trail fans. Prices range from $17.00-$64.00 for select attractions.

Another great opportunity for high quality, riveting Halloween entertainment is “DC Dead,” a three-part immersive show by the Anacostia Playhouse. Halloween-goers will be chased by zombies, salvage whatever supplies they can, and attempt to save humanity against a zombie apocalypse. One part is haunted house, the other two immersive theatre. An intense, physically demanding performance, this is recommended for fun-seekers ages 14 and up. Prices range from $35-$40 for select nights.
