Summer Netflix Kickoff

Testing is going strong but the light at the end of the tunnel is coming. So after the last batch of finals the doctor must order a warm up lap with a Netflix intensive. This summer is shaping up to be possibly the best yet as Netflix is amping up its offerings as it is flushed with new movies and our favorite shows are updated to keep subscribers interested.

Here are a few student favorites that are both new releases and those that are upcoming on Netflix’s streaming services:

“Legally Blonde” (2001) — PG 13

“Legally Blonde” follows the story of of Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) the outgoing sorority president majoring in fashion merchandising who is dumped by her boyfriend as she is not serious enough. Elle decides to win him back by entering Harvard Law School and her setting her sights on her own personal success to impress him.

“Grace & Frankie” (2015) — TV

This newly released Netflix comedy series follows Grace Hanson (Jane Fonda) and Frankie Bergstein (Lily Tomlin), long-time rivals, who are brought together when their respective husbands announce their mutual love and relationship along with their plan to get married.

“Dance Moms” (New collection) — TV PG

The Lifetime reality series set in Pittsburg, follows the Abby Lee Dance Company’s Junior Elite Competition Team of young girls aged 10–14 years old as prepare for and participate in various dance competitions, winning awards and hoping for an invitation to one of the National Competitions. Highlighting on rivalries in and out of the Abby Lee Dance Company, including that of the various “Dance Moms”.

“Duck Dynasty” (New collection) — TV PG

The A&E reality television series portrays the lives of the Robertson family, who became wealthy from their family-operated business Duck Commander, on their many adventures.

“Gimme Shelter” (2013) — PG 13

The heavy, independent drama film written and directed by Ronald Krause is based on a true story about  pregnant teenager Apple (Vanessa Hudgens), who runs away from her abusive, drug-addicted mother (Rosario Dawson), and traces her father (Brendan Fraser).

“Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas” (2013) — PG 13

“A Madea Christmas” is a Christmas comedy written, directed, produced by and starring Tyler Perry. The film  feature the eccentric Mabel “Madea” Simmons (Tyler Perry) as she goes on a surprise visits to her daughter’s for Christmas.

“Daredevil” (2015) — TV MA

“Marvel’s Daredevil” is a newly released television series created by Drew Goddard. The show follows Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) a blind lawyer who uses his heightened senses to fight crime by night on the streets of New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood as the masked vigilante Daredevil.

“They Came Together” (2014) — R

This film centers around Joel (Paul Rudd) and Molly (Amy Poehler). From their first great debacle, it’s “hate at first sight” as Joel’s Corporate Candy Company threatens to shut down Amy’s quirky indie candy shop. Predictably they fall in love, until they break up and then must find their way back together

“Noah” (2014) — PG 13

The film centers upon Noah (Russell Crowe) who is “chosen by his world’s creator to undertake a momentous mission before an apocalyptic flood cleanses the world.” As inspired by the biblical epic of Noah’s Ark.
