McLean slang has become a huge part of the school’s culture and discourse. “Pushing the limits of Mclean’s lexicon,” an article in the November issue of The Highlander, gave McLean a brief list of these increasingly popular sayings. However, with so many words being cut from the article due to lack of space, and with new words being constantly thrust into use, we at The Highlander feel it is our responsibility to keep you up to date on the loudest lingo in the school.

Banger (n.) – something marked by excitement, fun, or debauchery. Did you go to DeMarco’s party last week? It was an absolute banger.

Cop (v.) – to purchase or obtain. Geoff copped some fresh new Jordans at the mall a fortnight ago.

Choice (adj.) -preferable; high quality. Voss is the choice brand of dihydrogen monoxide for many high-income Americans.

Finesse (v.) – to perform a cunning or underhanded action. Michael was finessing so hard when he quiclkly took the seat next to his crush Eleanor as soon as the person sitting in it went to the snack line

GOAT (adj.) – Acronym for Greatest of All Time; used to indicate the superior quality of something. Mickey’s tweet, which got 6900 retweets, earned him a GOAT tweeter status at his school.

Guzzling mustard (adj.) – performing poorly. It became clear that Leon was guzzling mustard after he tripped on his own shoelaces twice during the 100 meter dash.

Heavy (adj.) – of a high quality; nice. The attacker ended the offensive play with a heavy strike at the goal.

Ji (adv.) (jye) – to a high quantity of. Very. Mickey was ji devastated after his Fantasy Team autodrafted Adrian Peterson, Ray Rice, Josh Gordon, and Aaron Hernandez.

Jont (adj.-n.) – can be used as a pronoun for just about anything. The McLean – Langley basketball game was crazy. That jont was bumping like a kid with goosebumps.

See me with the hands (phrase) – a challenge to physically fight someone else. Chester yelped “see me with the hands” at Ricardo after Ricardo spat in his face.

Slight (adj) – good, well made, high-quality, nice. The gold iPhone 6+ looks slight.

Some cut (adj.) – marked by something unsavory, distasteful, or unpleasant. Reading The Crucible and writing a three-page report on it on the last day of summer was some cut.

Soupe (adj.) (soop) – attractive, pleasing to the eye. Jimmy’s gold and black Bugatti Veyron was considered very soupe by his friends.

Squad (n.) – a group of friends or posse, often used as an interjection when doing things with a group of friends. Mickey ate lunch with the rest of his 5th period squad today.

Turn up (n.) – A period marked by excitement or fun. Watching finding Nemo in English during Spanish class was such a turn up.

Below is a list of words printed in “Pushing the limits of McLean’s lexicon” from The Highlander’s November 2014 edition.

Beef (n.) – harsh feelings between two persons or groups. There was some cogent beef between Bucky and Chucky after Bucky took Chucky’s girlfriend to homecoming.

Burst (v. or n.) – v – to laugh hard; n – a source of humor. I burst when Jonathan got his ankles broken by Rob during basketball practice yesterday.

Fire (adj.) – intense, exciting, good. Mickey’s highly-anticipated new mixtape, Mouse in the Trap House 3, was considered fire by all who listened to it.

Fleek (adj.) – being cool, fresh, or hip. Mickey’s suave new hairstyle, with the blond stripe down the middle, was succinctly fleek.

Flex (v.) – to try to appear cool or hip. Johnny was trying to flex in his minivan yesterday with his Ray-Bans and back-flow while leaving the junior lot, but to be honest, it just wasn’t working.

Fugazi (adj.) (foo-gah-zee) – fake, warped, or unattractive. Did you guys see Mickey’s fugazi new ha(ircut?

Geek (v. or n.) – to laugh hard; a source of humor. Aziz Ansari’s standup routine is a complete geek.

Loud (adj.) -of a high quality. The expensive mustard, made from ground French mustard seeds, tasted loud on the perfectly-cooked kobe beef burger.

Maybe next year bro (phrase) – a phrase used in response to someone’s failed attempt at anything. The teacher cackled loudly and yelled “maybe next year bro” at Mickey after he earned an F- as his final grade in the class.

My chest! (excl.) – an expression of frustration; a recognition of difficulty; an indicator of stress. (Usually said with an accompanied clutching of one’s chest). Mickey: “Hey Giff, do you know we have to read 67 pages tonight for AP US?” Giff: “My chest!”

No Chill (n.) – Sense of aggressiveness or recklessness. Everyone knew that Rob had no chill when he tweeted a meme making fun of Liam’s rusty knees.

OC (adj.) (Oh-see) – out of control. Mickey was so OC at the Marshall football game a few weeks ago, he was jumping up and down and tooting on his vuvuzela like he was at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Prayers -(excl.) an expression of exasperation or doubt. (Usually accompanied with a clasping of the speaker’s hands as if they were praying) The teacher muttered “prayers” after she graded the student’s pitiful history project.

Savage (adj.) – reckless, hardcore, disregarding for rules or authority, or risky. Did you see Mickey’s tweet of his texts with Becky? It was so savage.

Cook (v.) – to successfully insult someone in a generally humorous way. Mickey got cooked yesterday when Jonathan said his shoes looked like they were bought from the dollar store.

Sice (v. or n.) v – to give n – a positive thing or event Yo Mickey, can you sice me with the remote? Having 11 snow days last year was the ultimate sice.

Sus (adj.) – suspicious, dubious, sketchy. That squishy cafeteria meat looks sus.

The wood (adj.) – something or someone that is boring, slow, stupid, or just bad. Having an AP Chem exam on the same day as my BC Calc and AP Physics tests is the wood.

Whip (adj. or n.) – a car; or the action of driving a car. Mickey likes to whip his dad’s Mercedes to school so people will pay attention to him

WORLDSTAR (interj.) – exclaimed loudly for comedic effect when tensions between two people appear to be rising. Mickey yelped “WORLDSTAR” after he saw Jonathan hurl a crumbly chicken finger at Rob in the cafeteria.
