10 Qs with Ms. Braxton

1. What is the best advice you know?

”Someone once said, ‘Don’t regret things you have done, only things you haven’t done,’ and I think that’s a good piece of life advice! Learn from mistakes you’ve made in the past, and take advantage of any opportunity that presents itself to you.”

2. Favorite part of 2021 so far?

“Hands down, getting vaccinated! I feel so lucky to be in a state and county that prioritized teachers in the vaccination line up and getting the vaccine has played a huge role in me feeling more comfortable coming back into the building and seeing students in person, which I have loved being able to do.”

3. To you, what have been the best fashion trends?

“In general, I appreciate the resurgence of 90s fashion, but I know that a trend I can’t get with is the return of the middle part! It just doesn’t look as good as a side part and I will die on this hill!”

4. Biggest pet peeves?

“I don’t have a ton of these, but one that sticks out is when people are eating, and they rub their hands over their plate so that the crumbs on their fingers fall back into the food that they’re about to eat. I have no idea why it’s a pet peeve for me, but it just is!”

5. Tell us about your pageantry!

“I started competing in pageants when I was 16 years old. Because I heard that if I won, I could win scholarship money. In total, I competed for about 4 years. My favorite part was how much experience I got learning how to interview, which has come in super handy in my life outside of pageants and how many new and different people you get to meet when you’re a titleholder traveling to events.”

6. What is something you learned over quarantine?

”How to play Catan! I played non-stop for about the first 3 months of quarantine and it’s my new favorite board game!”

7. What do you do in your spare time?

“This answer has changed so much since COVID! Nowadays, if I’m not working or doing theater stuff, I really enjoy reading, watching and discussing film, cooking and baking, and taking naps.”

8. Favorite music artists?

“I am the BIGGEST Billie Eilish fangirl. I would also kill to go to a Twenty One Pilots concert. Recently I’ve been listening to a lot of old 90s music and have also rediscovered my love for Destiny’s Child.”

9. What is something most people don’t know about you?

“I’m really into musical theater, and it takes up a ton of my time outside of work and school. I sit on the Board of Directors for a community theatre organization, and when COVID isn’t happening, I do shows and perform in a traveling Broadway cabaret group.”

10. What has your most memorable spring break been?

“My sister and I are 9 years apart. So when my sister was in college, at Penn State, every year she was at the school, I would spend my Spring Break visiting her. It was always so much fun because I would get to go to classes with her and sleep in her dorm, and it really made me excited to be able to go to college one day! She was an awesome big sister, and I’ll always remember our spring breaks bonding at Penn State.”
